Missing Bolt Hanger
or Loose Nut?

SAS does NOT replace missing hangers or tighten nuts.

SAS will not replace hangers, but we will spread the word via our social media channels.

We encourage climbers to take part in on the spot stewardship by mitigating or remediating the problem through some simple steps.
3/8” bolts are standard in Squamish, but some other areas use 1/2”

  • Carry a small wrench. 9/16” (Some nut tools even have them built in.)

  • Tighten a loose nut. By hand if necessary.

  • Consider carrying 1-2 hangers for emergency replacement.

    • Availavle through MEC and Climb On. Stainless steel only!

    • Replace the hanger. Good Karma!!!

  • No hanger? Mark the missing hanger with a chalk X.

  • Mark the bottom of the route with a chalk X.

  • Leave a note or put a marker on the first bolt.

We have limited capacity to replace worn aluminum carabiners on chains. Help out your community and swap out worn carabiners.

Please provide detailed location and description of the issue.
